Virus Protection: Boxed Retail Software Products vs. Downloaded Software Products
Posted by: rick in NewsAs I set up my new laptop computer this weekend and was planning to re install all my applications and then the realization of CD-ROM product vs. Downloaded software product entered my mind. I went to get the CD-ROM’s and DVD-ROM’s of the programs I have purchased in the past to install on my PC… After a few hours of putting everything from Video Editing Software to CD-ROM Games on the PC there was a few things missing like the Anti Virus program I paid for on the internet for an annual subscription but I did not have my login and password since it updates automatically over the last few years I have had the service. The service asks for an email address and password for the install and my current email is not valid (was not the one used when I set up the account 2 or 3 years ago) and I can not remember which email account I had back then to retrieve my password. Sorry no update the web site stated. I then tried to find an 800 number with no luck on the site. Emailed support 2 times no response. I ended up driving down to a retail shop and buying the box version of another companies Anti Virus program with a CD-ROM containing the program. This will continue to be my main means of purchasing software of any value so I do not have to jump through hoops to reinstall if I have a system crash, upgrade a hard drive or buy another computer….
