This summer promises to be full of blockbuster hits as many old and new Super Heroes take to the big screen. If you didn’t catch Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal yet of Tony Stark in “Ironman” make sure you do before this one leaves the big screen! No matter how good your home theater, it simply will not do this film justice. Make sure you look for a cameo of Captain America’s shield in the background of Tony’s Stark’s lab. More on that in a minute. And whatever you do, DON’T leave the theater before the end of the credits. You’ll miss a very important “teaser!”
Indiana Jones was a fun film, with much of the old style many of us grew up on as this film franchise began. The introduction of Indiana’s new protege (I don’t want to give away the “spoiler” here with his identity), makes you wonder if the “Jones Saga” will see future installments now beyond Harrison Ford.
The “Incredible Hulk” was a huge relief this past weekend as Ed Norton Jr. rekindled what many thought was a dead franchise after the first attempt several years ago. The way that Marvel Comics is obviously linking these films with Tony Stark (aka Ironman) showing up in the film as well as Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury from “S.H.I.E.L.D.”) appearing in the “Ironman” film is showing true genius on the part of the studios as they set the framework for a future “Avengers” film combining several of these superheroes (ala “X-Men”). There was also a reference to the “Super Soldier serum” that created Captain America in the Hulk. Tie that into the shield that appeared in “Ironman” and you know that Marvel is up to something GOOD!
Of course D.C. Comics has yet to have its say with the release of “The Dark Knight” hitting theaters mid-July. This is probably the most anticipated superhero film of the summer given the passing earlier this year of the film’s “Joker,” Heath Ledger. Look for major blockbuster ticket sales and long lines when this one hits theaters. Buy early, watch often. And if you are so inclined to learn a little more about The Dark Knight’s fight training, catch the upcoming DVD’s from Keysi Fighting Method or KFM now being replicated at Duplium, due out in July on their website at www.keysikfm.com. Seems these same fight trainers might also be working with another “super character” of note– James Bond– with his upcoming film release this November.
Lots of action and lots of fun this summer as many favorite comic book characters take to the screen. Having grown up with many of these characters, it is not only great to see them myself, but to see younger viewers enjoy them as well.
Have a “super” time watching them and don’t forget the popcorn.
