There is another DVD on the block for individuals who love crime-fiction and are particularly fans of the famous author Ruth Rendell. The DVD is an amalgamation of some of the most famous works of Ruth Rendell, such as Going Wrong, The Fallen Curtain, Lake of Darkness and You Can’t Be Too Careful.

It is pretty obvious that all the stories are crime related and deal with the psychological aspect of the person who commits the crime or the victim. The first offering of the DVD i.e. Going Wrong basically deals with the romance between a lower-class, rough and tough guy who is a drug dealer and an upper class female protagonist who although is a very nice girl but has had her share of interactions with the dark side of the society.

The next story i.e. Harm Done deals with the theme of abduction. This is the proper crime mystery where the plot has been weaved together in an amazing manner. This is the plot which has vivid details of wife beating episodes and paedophilia. The story has quite a few shocking moments which turn the sequence of events upside down, every time a new crime-related discovery is made.

The other story The Fallen Curtain is yet another piece of story which deals with the story of a man who was abducted in his childhood and early youth. After seeing a car similar to the one in which he was abducted, the man is reminded of all the past events which keep haunting him in his youth.

Most of the stories in the DVD deal with the subject of abduction or some revelations from the past which affect the present life of the protagonists immensely. The DVD quality is above average. Ditto for the sound affects as well. There are a few extras provided in the movie. Overall, the movie can be watched at least once or twice and is worth-renting.

Universal Pictures has come up with yet another romantic comedy movie: Definitely, Maybe directed by the all time favorite Adam Brooks. The film stars Rachel Weisz, Ryan Reynolds, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Elizabeth Banks, Kevin Kline and Derek Luke. Will Hayes is a father in his 30s and is facing a divorce. His daughter Maya who is 10 years old lives with the mother but meets him for a couple of time a week.

On one of such meetings, Maya asks her father to tell her about life before he got married. To tell her the story, he changes some facts and the names of the people involved in it, so that Maya needs to keep guessing which of the three women is actually her mother. The story has been depicted in flashbacks and moves back and forth as the daughter asks and comments in between. At the end of the story, although Maya succeeds in figuring it out but realizes that Will is still in love with April. She encourages her father to go and ask for April?s heart as he succeeds in doing so in the end.

In the weekend of its opening, the movie grossed about $9.5 million over 2200 theatres in Canada and US ranking 5 on box office. As far as the plot of the film is concerned, it is perfectly what a romantic comedy needs to be. With its performances and the witty script, the film will definitely make you cry, laugh and think or at least touch your heart somewhere. Sure, the film gets gimmick and may be predictable in some spots, but it is a distinct entry which stands out of the ocean of film from indistinguishable genres.
The DVD coming out on June 24th 2008 is a good quality soft presentation of the film’s tone.

The eight-episodes release of ‘Allo ‘Allo! The Complete Series Eight has been a great disappointment for the fans. Divided in two-disc, the DVD showcases the next phase of adventure of the barmaid groper/resistance fighter/ owner of the WWII French café, Rene Artois as he evades the advances of Nazis occupiers and amorous barmaids. The entire series was a big disappointment in terms of inspired satire which defined the previous series. A fall in its quality and critical defection by the creative staff of the show worsens the whole experience of watching the series.

With its video shot in full frame DVD of ‘Allo ‘Allo! The Complete Series Eight had a video image of 1.33:1. Though the video image is quite soft and has infrequent wonky color, still overall it is quite satisfactory. When it comes to compression issues, there is nothing to speak about. The mono audio way of English 2.0 is also just sufficient for the ‘Allo ‘Allo! The Complete Series Eight. Option of close-caption with its misspelled wordplay is also very helpful, so do not miss it by any chance.

Talking about the extras, apart from the regular text bios for cast members, Comedy Connections from 2006 is another addition to the series. This is an episode of TV series that stretches for around 40 minutes. With interviews of cast and writers, the episode is a comprehensive rundown of the series. It is quite informative and may seem to be pleasing to you if you have been oblivious about the series and watching it for the first time.

Finally, the DVD of ‘Allo ‘Allo! The Complete Series Eight is a big disappointment for those who are looking forward to farcical ongoing in the Nouvion, but a serious departure in direction and writing team leaves the whole eighth series to be very unsatisfactory. So, the best way to go for fans is just to have a rental in order to stay acquainted with the addition to the series, but purchase is certainly not recommended.

This summer promises to be full of blockbuster hits as many old and new Super Heroes take to the big screen. If you didn’t catch Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal yet of Tony Stark in “Ironman” make sure you do before this one leaves the big screen! No matter how good your home theater, it simply will not do this film justice. Make sure you look for a cameo of Captain America’s shield in the background of Tony’s Stark’s lab. More on that in a minute. And whatever you do, DON’T leave the theater before the end of the credits. You’ll miss a very important “teaser!”

Indiana Jones was a fun film, with much of the old style many of us grew up on as this film franchise began. The introduction of Indiana’s new protege (I don’t want to give away the “spoiler” here with his identity), makes you wonder if the “Jones Saga” will see future installments now beyond Harrison Ford.

The “Incredible Hulk” was a huge relief this past weekend as Ed Norton Jr. rekindled what many thought was a dead franchise after the first attempt several years ago. The way that Marvel Comics is obviously linking these films with Tony Stark (aka Ironman) showing up in the film as well as Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury from “S.H.I.E.L.D.”) appearing in the “Ironman” film is showing true genius on the part of the studios as they set the framework for a future “Avengers” film combining several of these superheroes (ala “X-Men”). There was also a reference to the “Super Soldier serum” that created Captain America in the Hulk. Tie that into the shield that appeared in “Ironman” and you know that Marvel is up to something GOOD!

Of course D.C. Comics has yet to have its say with the release of “The Dark Knight” hitting theaters mid-July. This is probably the most anticipated superhero film of the summer given the passing earlier this year of the film’s “Joker,” Heath Ledger. Look for major blockbuster ticket sales and long lines when this one hits theaters. Buy early, watch often. And if you are so inclined to learn a little more about The Dark Knight’s fight training, catch the upcoming DVD’s from Keysi Fighting Method or KFM now being replicated at Duplium, due out in July on their website at www.keysikfm.com. Seems these same fight trainers might also be working with another “super character” of note– James Bond– with his upcoming film release this November.

Lots of action and lots of fun this summer as many favorite comic book characters take to the screen. Having grown up with many of these characters, it is not only great to see them myself, but to see younger viewers enjoy them as well.

Have a “super” time watching them and don’t forget the popcorn.

I recently purchased the latest Will Ferrell movie Semi Pro. At first watch I’m thinking semi good. It had it’s moments and it had it’s down times, there seems to be a growing theme with Will’s characters as the ultimate sex crazed ladies man, as he was in Blades of Glory. Will Ferrell has provided me great Entertainment over the years as Anchorman, Old School, Talladega Nights, are all classics in my collection. They have been watched over and over again and they always seem to get better the more I watch them.

I don’t know if Semi Pro will grow on me the same, I will give it another chance as I always do with Will Ferrell movies. I am fearful that his comedy may be getting old for me, but I hope not. Recently movies like Superbad & Grandma’s boy see more airtime in my DVD players. I look forward to some upcoming releases as they can’t all be hits.

I certainly look forward to the rumoured Old School 2 with the whole gang apparently returning Will, Vince, Luke nice. That is a classic and I hope it can live up to the first one, comedies are so hard to repeat and rarely ever live up to the first. I gaurantee you I will be in the thearter for that one. So as far as Semi pro goes I give it one thumb up and one half sideways.

I also watched I Think I Love My Wife with Chris Rock and I will let you know what I thought of that in my next blog.

There has been a great amount of rise in the martial arts movies owning to the popularity of this art over the preceding few years. EliteXC has been a video game company which has come up with “Renegade”, an Elites show which can the world of martial art lovers by storm. The event of the EliteXC which is essentially just a MMA event is led by the charismatic promoter Gary Shaw.

The DVD actually begins with a fight scene between Silva, a famous heavy weight fighter and Wiezorek who is known for his strenuous self-training schedules. Wiezorek is putting up all his efforts to emerge a winner in this fight and beat up the efforts of Silva. Next in the gaming video comes up a middleweight fight between Klienbeck and Noke. Martial art lovers who want to watch a serious gory fight will simply galore at this one.

There is an interesting commentary in the back full of sarcastic puns by the commentator Mauro Ranallo.

The other fight is between Kimbo Slice aka Kevin Ferguson who hails from the region of Florida is a famous street fighter there and Cantrell. Slice and his friends made videos of fights and then publicise them on the internet for everyone to see. The earlier opponent of the fight with Kimbo was Mike Bourke but he fell ill so Cantrell was stepped up for the fight.

Boxing has been recognized as a fight with its standard set of rules and different weight classes have been established. The most interesting event of the title is a fight between Noons and Diaz for a simple lightweight title. As far as the reputation of Diaz is concerned, Diaz has a very flourishing career in the current UFC racking till date with a decent performance in all the categories of game fights. He was released after a loss in a game fight but re-emerged after an underdog win.

Finishing The Games, the movie that is a search by the unscrupulous producers to find a suitable actor in order to replace the actual star of the movie, Bruce Lee, is not a movie that you can cherish for long. Bruce Lee unexpectedly died during the filming of the movie Game of Death and had shot about 12 minutes of the movie. Although the idea of this movie is not as ridiculous as the movie itself, one can find that the movie is just a comedy producing a few giggles. The expectation that the movie will produce audible laughter has been completely put to an end as most part of the film has predictable scenes and issues.

Among the candidates that appear to reaplce the character of Bruce Lee are shown Troy Poon, Breeze Loo and Cole Kim. For adding laughs to the film, there is McCaleb Burnett as Tarrick Tyler, who is a white guy with blonde hair but declares to be partly Asian and Mousa Kraish as Raja Moore, the doctor who aspires to become a budding actor. These characters along with a few other contenders such as a Vietnamese, who is an effeminate refugee, add laughter and entertainment to the movie.

The most predictable incident in Finishing The Games is that of the relationship between Saraghina and Cole Kim, the former being the manager cum girlfriend of Kim. Apart from having obvious scenes, the film, written by Josh and Lin Diamond and Justin Lin as its director, it fails as it tries its best in order to make it interesting rather than adding the truth. Although the audiences very well are aware of the personality of Bruce Lee, the movie does not make efforts to show that why he was so important or what impact Lee had. Instead the eminent personality is made a butt of ridicule by poor jokes. As some people will really enjoy the funny moments of the movie, it is sure that majority of them will feel the way I felt.

A marvel in the world of animation, The Art of the Fantastic Four is just perfect from every aspect from sound effects to superior video quality. Satiating the crazy crowds with a DVD launch, it is all set to make its fans transfixed with the recommendation from different information sources that has made people a search spree to catch hold of its Complete First Season DVD. Along with the DVD, fans can also grab inside the package, a small partial reprint of the premier issue of comic book of Ultimate Fantastic Four from Danby Miki, Mark Miller, Brian Bendis and Andy Kubert.

The episodes of the comic book appear to be excellent on the DVD with 1.78.1 anamorphic widescreen. No compression artifacts and print damages can be complained about and the colors are bright and bold. Apart from some little shimmering lines noticed at times around the fine lines, there are no negative points about the DVD. In fact, the picture quality is exceptionally strong and style of the animation used is also quite impressive.

The only track in the spiffy English language Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound is at par with the video quality of the DVD. There are also optional subtitles in Spanish and English along with the closed captioning in English for hearing impaired viewers. Levels of sound are balanced quite well and the sounds are clean, clear and nice with no distortion or hiss to complain about.

Last but not least is included in this DVD a commentary track from the Craig Kyle, executive producer and Chris Yost, head writer for the Scavenger Hunt, My Neighbor Was a Skrull and Contest of Champions episodes. Hence, with extra features as this, Fox is sure to make fans happy with the release of the movie and DVD of Fantastic Four - World’s Greatest Heroes: The Complete First Season.
